Improbable Beauty

Frozen Bubbles

I still have so much to learn about the art and craft of photographing bubbles as they freeze, but God’s work in beautifying those bubbles?  Breathtaking perfection! Etched feathers.  Chunky diamonds. Surprising shapes. (Am I the only one who sees a Schnauzer in one of those bubbles?) So beautiful.

And, so improbable!

Bubbles were not intended for winter play. Who thought to blow winter bubbles in the first place, and did they imagine that those bubbles could become even more beautiful as temperatures dropped?

Aren’t we a little like that?

How often in our personal winter seasons do we feel unable to do much more than wait for better weather – like a forgotten bottle of bubbles?

And yet, here we are: improbably created as God’s masterpiece, beautiful with the light that His Son shines in us, and capable, with His help, of doing so much more for Him than we can even imagine.

No matter our season. No matter our feelings.

If you are in a harsh personal winter season right now, may you be blessed to remember that God sees our beauty and our potential even when we can’t.

  1. The frozen bubbles are AMAZING! They look like a piece of glass that has been etched. (I see the schnauzer) 🙂 God is Good!

  2. They ARE amazing, aren’t they? Wow! We only get a few cold enough mornings each winter to play with freezing bubbles. But, what fun it is. The freezing process happens so fast, but even if I don’t manage to capture a bubble at its peak, I love watching those designs race across the delicate globes. The same God who paints a magnificent sunrise also etches stunning designs in a frozen membrane of water, dish soap, and sugar. Amazing, indeed.

  3. These frozen bubbles are so interesting and amazing! I know you told me the process for creating these and I would love to be part of the next time in recreating them. Something to look forward to this winter!

    1. They are amazing and so beautiful to watch form! Yes, I always look forward to the mornings it is actually cold and still enough to freeze bubbles and capture the process. Your little grandkids will love freezing bubbles, too, and blowing on them after they are frozen. The bubbles shatter like glass!
